<p style="text-align: justify;">This presentation shows in a positive way how the partnership between companies and universities can be helpful to prepare the engineer of the future. Despite of applying knowledge of basic science, engineering and technological fundamentals, companies and universities should have a systematic approach for capturing and understand innovation in engineering business, including factors critical to success in a global market, adapt to the social, cultural, global, environmental and business contexts, including entrepreneurship and sustainable development. It is unrealistic to expect education to prepare people fully for all work functions but greater understanding is required of the pro-active role that the university itself can play in developing strong linkages with industry and encourage academic-based entrepreneurship. We are currently preparing students for jobs that do not yet exist and for technologies that do not yet was invented.</p>
